Is it possible to the middle class to be happy at their job?
Studies directed to the middle class made by Shawn Achor in 2010 show a different perspective of positivity and outcomes at work. It is known that if you find a job that you like, you will be happy and productive at it, but sometimes it can be wrong. The key of a successful job is not only about if you love it or not, but it is also about positive thoughts and personal goals.
When we have the goal of finding a job that we like, our happiness and productiveness will be all towards it. Once we found it, instead of being happy, we change our perspective of successful and happiness to something ahead, like having a promotion, for example. So the problem is that we are never satisfied with our present life, and to be happy not only at our job, but also in our life, we need to live the moment as a great thing, so wherever comes next will be even better.
Some big companies have already realized it and are searching for new ways of making their employees to see their jobs with a positive look, so then they will be happier in life, consequently, they will be producing more. The final outcome can be good if you are good at your job, but it can be great if besides being good you are also positive and happy. Those companies are rearranging their rooms with a lighter decoration, a background music, different snacks, different days with a theme, parties, dinners and speeches about positivity and personal goals. The outcome of these companies showed a 58% increase of happier employees and better work in the departments that embraced the cause.
Capitalism implemented the “you can always achieve more” chip in people, and that is true, we can achieve more because we are capable of it, but never being satisfied with what we already have makes we live a miserable life, because we will never be happy enough. It is not that we are not allowed to have bigger goals, we are. It’s only that we don’t have to be upset if we haven’t got there yet.
So, is it possible to be happy at our jobs? Yes. But we have to live the moment as a great thing already. Changing constantly our goals once we achieved the previous one ends up in a snow ball that we cannot stop. We need to be able to see that with the snow we have, we can build a snowman, or only a little ball, or even just a footprint, but it is something already.
